Allison Lefkowitz, LMFT

In my role as therapist, I provide a warm, non-judgmental and supportive environment for healing. My clinical approach is humanistic, psychodynamic, client centered, holistic, and relational. Authenticity and transparency are also very important to me in the therapeutic relationship. I see my clients as experts of their own lives, and find a collaborative approach to the work essential for lasting healing.

In my work with individuals I utilize interventions from Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing, with a deep understanding of trauma, family systems and attachment theories.

I believe our earliest relationships with our families and primary caregivers have great influence on the way we experience the relationship with ourselves or others today. By gaining insight to our past, combined with tools to help work with the natural responses of the mind and body, we can create more choice in our present and future.

I am also passionate about working with clients in their 20’s and 30’s. Because we are under a number of stressors during this time of life, combined with the pressure of having to make major life decisions (career, marriage, etc.), many find it a great benefit to receive assistance during this challenging and stressful time of life!

In working with couples, I provide a safe and structured environment to help couples talk about major issues including finances, communication, conflict resolution and sex. I also have a special interest working with couples struggling with anger, and infidelity. In working with infidelity I am influenced by the work of Esther Perel, leading researcher on this topic (www.estherperel.com)

I received my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York. I also did part of my masters training at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

I have a B.A., in Theatre Arts from California State University Northridge. After receiving my B.A. I spent several years performing improv comedy, with the troupe, “Slow, Children at Play,” in North Hollywood, California. I also have studied commercial and animation voice-over and my voice has appeared in several short films. I hold all arts, including comedy in a special place in my heart, and have found them to be an incredible tool in the journey of healing.
